One tip that saved me thousands & boosted my profits

You’ve probably heard of the term “information overload”! It’s VERY REAL and is probably responsible for more people failing at online marketing than any other single thing! You’ve also heard the phrase “there aint enough hours in the day“. You need to use your time wisely!

So what is information overload?

Well, when you start out in online marketing you are led to believe over and over that it’s easy. That you can sit in your pyjamas all day and make silly money.

Then you are SOLD information products that will tell you exactly how to do this in next to no time!

Awesome! You’re going to be super rich, and fast, right?

Wrong!

Because a couple of days later, another product is launched that tells you a different way to get rich quick! So you buy that too!

And a few days later……

And what happens to the first product you bought? Normally nothing. Sure you might have read it, or watched the videos, but did you take any action?

And then there’s all the free stuff too. Gurus promising you their inner secrets…. For free! So you download it and read it, and again, it might show you ANOTHER new way to make a stack of cash, so you forget about the stuff you bought before and start getting excited about the new stuff….

And before you know it, you have a hard drive FULL of great (and crap) internet marketing products that you have read/watched, and nothing is put into action!

You see, you are being soild on the get rich quick concept and it doesn’t exist! More like the GET POOR QUICK when you’re buying all this stuff!

Here’s a GREAT BIG SECRET…. THERE IS NO SECRET!

So, what should you do?

In one word…. STOP

Stop buying all the latest releases. Yes, they might work, but so does most of the stuff you have already!

Stop downloading all the free stuff you can get your hands on. All you’re doing is signing up to people’s lists so they can sell more stuff to you!

Stop reading all the emails from everyone under the sun! Here’s something that saved me thousands and boosted my profits! DON’T OPEN YOUR EMAIL SOFTWARE UNTIL THE END OF YOUR DAY! It’s all to easy to sit in front of the computer and fire up your emails. Next thing you know, an hour has passed and you haven’t accomplished anything! If you open them last thing, I can guarantee you’ll rattle through them much quicker! And you will have already accomplished a whole load. And you’ll be more confident that what you are doing is going to make you money, so you don’t need to buy the latest shiny new product!

And stop believing that there is a magic silver bullet that will propel you to riches without having to work for it! 9999 times out of 10000 it’s bulls**t! You want to make some decent money, yet you spend hours, days, months, years being suckered in by the 9999 looking for the 1 needle in that massive haystack!

So it’s time to START

Start unsubscribing from all the mailing lists you are on – Instead find a few mentors. People you know has your interest at heart. People who do not bombard you with sales emails, but instead give you valuable content. Learn from their emails how you should build your business and how you spend your time more wisely.

Start WORKING – Start putting the stuff you already know into practice! You see, reading and watching videos does not make you money. Sure it will teach you how, but to make money, you have to WORK AT IT.

Now don’t get me wrong, you must still continue with your education, but use your time wisely! If you only have 3 hours a day to spare, don’t spend it all learning new stuff.

Instead, use what you know already and start implementing it!

Setting goals – Focus, or Hocus Pocus?

If you want to succeed in internet marketing, you need to know why! Your intention could be to make a few hundred bucks a month to help with the household bills, or you might want to earn a few grand to finally be able to sack your boss. Or you might want to earn a massive stack of money!

So the first thing you need to focus on is exactly what you want to get out of your business. And set yourself a GOAL.

You need to know how much money you want to make let’s say each month, then break that down so you know how much you need to make a week, then a day. Then you need to take action to make that happen!

You may have heard of the study, supposedly done at Yale or Harvard, where it is claimed that the 3% of students that wrote done their goals achieved more in their careers than those that did not set goals. It turns out that the study is a myth, but there was a subsequent study done at the Dominican University that seems to substantiate the results. Check this out.

I’m not going to go into depth here about setting goals. You could write a book on just that subject – and many have. but suffice for now to say that you neeed to know what your goals are so that you can focus on them. And better yet, set you goal, then break that down into sub-goals or targets – easy bite-sized targets that you can meet in a short timeframe that lead to your ultimate goal…

  • Buy a domain name and a hosting package
  • Build a blog
  • Write your first post
  • Make your first sale
  • Make your first 100 bucks
  • etc…

It’s all to easy to think, “I’ll do that later”, but if you have a goal to focus on, broken down into achievable sub-goals, you can focus much better on what needs to be done at a given time.

So, if you do this one thing, you will have an advantage of most of the other internet marketers who are just starting out.

Why do so many people fail at Internet Marketing?

Internet marketing does work! But it’s a sad fact that 95% of people will fail. But why is the failure rate so high?

1. It requires work! Yes, you have to put the effort in, at least initially, before you start to see results. I can’t tell you just how many people I have heard say “internet marketing doesn’t work”, then when you question them, they say they have been on loads of courses, bought ebooks, audio and video trainings, attended conferences…. And when I ask them about their products or their websites they say the don’t have one! Well, no wonder they are not making any money!

2. Looking for the magic button! I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but here is no such thing! Sure, there are tools that will save you time, but if you are searching for a product where you click one or two buttons, and become insanely rich, you will never, ever succeed in this industry!

And there is no real secret to internet marketing. Sure, there are variations on strategies, but the basics remain. You need a product – your own, or as an affiliate. You need a website – your own, a blog, even a social networking account can be sufficient. And you need web traffic. And you will need to build a mailing list. And really, that’s about it!

3. Fear! Fear is the most negative of emotions. You might well have a great idea for a product or website, but the idea stays in your head because you are afraid. Afraid that perhaps you don’t know enough to teach somebody else. Afraid of the process of creating the product an / or website. Afraid that you’ll be ridiculed or that people might not like your product.

Put your fear to one side. It’s amazing how much more you might already know about online marketing, or your chosen niche, than “Joe public”. If you have read one ebook, or attended one course, you will know more than 95% of the population about that subhject matter!

So, in the words of a well know sports brand…. “Just Do It!”

4. Perpetual learning! Yes, we all need to learn. We need to develop new skills, learn new strategies. But there is no point in indulging in constant education if you’re not going to put what you learn in to practice! And the internet marketing world is one of the worst places to be if you’re a perpetual learner! Every day it seems there is a new product launch. And the perpeutual learner will dive in to each of these new products expecting the “Golden Goose”. But a few days later, the “next big thing” will be launched and the previous product consigned to memory.

Do yourself a favour. If you buy an internet marketing product, study it, the PUT IT INTO PRACTICE. Once, you have fully utilised what you have learnt, then might be the time to get your next training course. But please, don’t keep buying all the new trainings under the Sun.

Instead, learn. Then TAKE ACTION!

5. Putting short term income above long term success! This is a biggie! This is where I went wrong. Yes, you can make a decent amount of money by promoting launches, blasting out emails every day, launching your own products. But to achieve real success, you need to do things a bit differently. Look at it this way, would you rather launch a product to great fanfare and earn 10 grand in 7 days, and then 6 months later, do it over again? Or would you rather set up a system where you could earn 1000 bucks a month consistently for 12 months, 24 months, 36 months, and just do the work once…. And create more systems that do the same? Sure, a ten grand lump sum would be nice, but those launches should be bonuses. The real bread and butter is with setting up these hands free money earning sites and products.

6. Putting yourself before your subscribers

And what about your list? The most expensive acquisition you can make is a new member, or subscriber. Wouldn’t you want to maximise the profit you make from that subscriber? If you blast out all of the latest launches to them 2 or three times a week, do you think they’ll get real value from being on your list? No. Get this….

PEOPLE DON’T LIKE BEING SOLD TO!

They will unsubscribe quicker than you can get new subscribers on to your mailing list!

A better way surely would be to provide a massive amount of useful information and content and making friends with your subscribers. Which of the following would be more likely to tempt you to buy a particular computer. A salesman in a computer store telling you how good a computer is, or one of your friends telling you that he has that paticular model and finds it to be brilliant? I know that I am more likely to be swayed by a friend giving me an HONEST opinion, than a salesman trying to make a fast buck!

I could go on for hours, but I am going to stop here. Not because I am running out of things to say, but because you need to think aboput the issues I have raised so far….

So look out for more very soon.

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new Dave

daveoffen.com has changed. It’s a case of out with the old and in with the new.

I have been marketing online for a few years now, and I have done OK. I make a decent living at it, but I realised last night that I am doing it all WRONG.

You see, I have been studying online marketing products for so long now, I kinda lost track of what I wanted to do from the outset. It was only when I was checking out Lee McIntyre’s trainings that I realised that I had moved away from my old philosophies. I did OK in the MLM scene a while back, and I was always keen to help other people make money. In turn that made me decent money too. And internet marketing is no different.

If you help enough people get what they want, you’ll get everything you want!

I’ve always known that, but somewhere along the way, I got so excited about making money that I drifted away from helping other people make money.

So, it’s all change – I have stripped out all of my old posts, and I am started over.

So how does this affect you?

Well, you’re going to get VALUABLE content. Not product reviews trying to entice you in to buying the next shiny new product. You’ll get usable information that you can take away and implement that will help you make money! You’ll get a LOT of FREE information and products from me to help you succeed!

Will I promote other people’s products?

Maybe! But, and it’s a big but! Only if I have used the product and know without a shadow of a doubt that it will help you, either as a time saving tool, or as a strategy that I know works, but am not experienced enough in to explain myself.

So, come back often. Leave your comments. Ask me questions. Tell me what you want to know. And I will do my best to help you succeed in this exciting online industry.

May you achieve everything you wish for.

Dave
